JEWELRY CARE

HOW TO CLEANSE AND STORE YOUR JEWELS

Not many people are aware of the importance and benefits of cleaning your jewelry. Not only does it prevent tarnishing, but it keeps them shiny and bright! Who doesn't want that? You do not need an expensive cleaner to maintain your pieces. Below are a few methods to cleanse your jewels based on their material.

STERLING SILVER

Many don't know this, but sterling silver can tarnish if it's not worn often or properly stored. There's no need to worry though, this can easily be fixed! All you will need is, toothpaste and a jewelry polishing cloth. Squeeze a pea size amount of tooth paste onto your tarnished jewelry and gently massage using the polishing cloth. Use more toothpaste if needed. Rinse under water, set to dry, and voila!! Your sterling silver jewelry is good as new.

GOLD FILLED

When it comes to cleaning gold filled jewelry, a child sized toothbrush and dish soap will do the job! Be gentle when brushing to prevent any scratches on your piece. Dish soap will remove any oil or dirt, leaving your jewelry shiny and bright. Rinse off any excess residue and use a soft cotton cloth to give it that final, polished look. Use this method once a week to cleanse your jewels and ESPECIALLY if it's been exposed to any moisture or chemicals such as, sweat, perfumes, or chlorine from swimming pools.

STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless steel is extremely affordable, durable, and scratch resistant. It’s resistant to rust, oxidation, and discoloration, allowing the metal to last much longer. In the case that your stainless steel jewelry DOES tarnish, use this simple method to rejuvenate your piece(s).

YOU WILL NEED :

  • A large glass bowl
  • 1/2 tablespoon of water
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • Soft kitchen towel
  • Soft bristle toothbrush

Start by combining the baking soda and water in a glass bowl. Dip the toothbrush into the mixture and gently scrub your stainless steel jewelry. Rinse off the jewelry with warm water, then use a soft towel to remove any excess. Let the jewelry sit for a few minutes to completely dry before storing away.

GOLD PLATED

The most effective way to clean gold plated jewelry, is by using a damp q-tip or  cotton ball to gently wipe down the surface and crevices. Use this method after each use to remove smudges and oil from that day. This will help maintain the shine! Every other week, cleanse your jewels in warm water with dish soap because it may have been exposed to moisture and chemicals that can cause tarnishing. DO NOT use a polishing cloth to wipe or pat your jewelry dry. It's subtle texture can scratch the gold plating off. Instead, opt for a microfiber cloth.

MOISTURE AND CHEMICALS THAT CAN CAUSE TARNISHING

PROPER JEWELRY STORAGE
